Cathie development about to take shape

COMMUNITY facilities including a bowling green, lap pool and tennis court will take shape at a Lake Cathie development during coming months.

The community facilities are the next step in the Ocean Drive development known as Ocean Club Resort.

The project, when complete, will feature 260 architecturally designed manufactured houses built on concrete slabs.

Residents will have access to facilities including a 25m lap pool, competition size bowling green, tennis court and clubhouse.

Sydney companies Huntingdale Properties and the Gwynvill Group are the developers.

Port Macquarie business J Newton Construction has almost completed the major site works.

Commercial Project Group, which won the 40-week building contract for the community facilities, started work mid-last month.

Commercial Project Group (CPG) project manager Aram Duffy said there would be about 50 tradesmen on-site on any given day when the job reached its peak, and indirectly, about 50 suppliers would also benefit.

Mr Duffy said CPG had already met some key project milestones with the completion of the sales/manager's residence ground floor slab.

"This is a high quality project that will be great in terms of employment opportunities for subcontractors and suppliers of the Hastings," he said.

"The facility itself will be a significant asset for the wider community."

Huntingdale Properties principal John Gilmour said the project had gone like clockwork other than the record year of wet weather.

"It has been a challenging time for everyone involved and we are excited to get to this position," he said.

Marketing will begin once the community facilities reach lock-up stage.

Mr Gilmour said the developers hoped to have houses for sale at the completion of the community facilities.

The development is billed as a new concept in "active affordable lifestyle retirement living".

Ocean Club Resort will be a secure community with facilities including a heated swimming pool, bowling green, tennis court, private cinema, gym, men's shed, library and clubhouse.
